Starting issues

I have a 99 DR SEX. It is electric start but wouldn't fire up so I bought a new battery. It still wouldn't start but was fine when connected to the car battery and will push star as well. I got the new battery checked and it is ok so seems to be another component. Any ideas?

sidestandswitch?
clutchswitch (if you have one)?
corroded/dirty connections -> check, if you can bypass the starter-relais?
check what happens, when you press the starter.
Report, what results you have.
